The Highway Department operates on a 4 day week, Monday–Thursday, 6AM-4:30 PM year-round.
Highway Dept. operates overtime during inclement weather and weather related emergencies and will be out plowing and keeping roads safe and clear during storms throughout the year.
The Highway Superintendent is responsible for the operation of the Town of Day Highway Department. This is an elected position and each term of office is for 4 years, The Highway Department is charged with maintaining 32.61 miles of Town Roads and any bridges within the town that are less than 20 feet long. Bridges longer than 20 feet are the responsibility of Saratoga County DPW.
Problems involving Saratoga County roads like North Shore and South Shore should be reported to the Saratoga County Department of Public Works at the North Garage – 518-696-2789
Road maintenance is a year round activity ranging from snow plowing and sanding to mowing and sweeping. The department resurfaces town roads, maintains culverts, and fixes washouts. Town roads are normally posted from November to April each year. There is to be nothing built, planted or placed on highway right-of-way which is within 8 feet from the edge of the road. Highway right-of-way is to remain clear so our trucks can operate safely. The Highway Superintendent manages an organization of 8 full time employees and 2 seasonal part-time employees. In addition, the two part-time personnel in Refuse/Recycling are overseen by the Highway Superintendent.
