Saratoga County Office for the Aging Information The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors and the Office for the Aging are committed to assisting our older citizens to remain in their homes and to actively participate in family and community life. The Saratoga County Office for the Aging provides services for seniors throughout the County of Saratoga. These services create opportunities for active older people and meet the needs of those at risk of losing their independence. Older people have access to information and referral services, transportation, job and volunteer opportunities, senior center and day care center programs, congregate and home delivered meals as well as case management and in-home services. FARMERS MARKET-FREE FOOD COUPONS: Requirements 60 + age $2,322 per month or below, household of one, and $3,512 per month or below, household of 2 or more · Program – Each eligible person can receive a $25 booklet (5- $5 coupons) that are good for fresh fruits and vegetables at local participating Farmer’s Market vendors and Farm Stands. NO change can be given for any unused amount on a coupon.
· Restrictions- MUST be person eligible to use coupons OR present the Power of Attorney documents. Coupons expire 11/30/24. FREE HOME DELIVERED MEALS Free Home Delivered Meals-CALL 518-884-4100 and ask to speak to Sandra Cross. If you are requesting meals a relative or friend cannot call, you must personally call. A hot, nutritious noon time meal is delivered to home-bound seniors age 60 or older throughout Saratoga County. Suggested contribution is $2 per meal; however, no one is denied a meal because of inability to pay. Evening, weekend and holiday meals are available.
Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Usually, the requirements are you live alone, have no help, don’t drive, etc. But they make a LOT of concessions based on your situation
Meals are delivered Monday through Friday but requests for cold meals to be included for the weekend are optional.

HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (HEAP) Contact: Heap 518-884-4111 for an application HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program)- CALL 518-884-4146 to apply. Home Energy Assistance Program is a federally funded program which can help low-income people contend with the high cost of heating their homes during the winter months and cooling their homes during the summer. HEAP provides a one-time regular benefit per heating season which is credited to your heating account. Person’s age 60 or older or deemed disabled may apply for a regular credit by mail. In addition, for qualifying persons a FREE air conditioner is provided (with limitations). Some restrictions- ü Income of $2,400 or less per month. ü You must be 60 years old or over or deemed disabled. ü If you already qualify for heat, you automatically qualify for the air conditioner but you must reach out and request it ü How to Apply for Services: Anyone can apply by going to www.mybenefits.ny.gov/ or contact the Department of Senior Services . FREE AIRCONDITIONER-HEAP: Requirements 60 + age Same income requirements as heating relief. Currently do not have an air-conditioner. · Contact/Application Call 518-884-4146 · Program-Eligible Seniors, after completing the application, receive a free, installed air conditioner free of charge. If you have already completed the application for heating assistance, you are automatically eligible for an air conditioner. SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM (SNAP) Contact: SNAP/Ballston Spa Office – 518-884-4155 Objective: To reduce the hunger and to provide low-income households with a supplement to their income to purchase food. Services: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); referrals to other agencies; free nutrition education to qualified individuals. Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm Target Population: Any low-income individual/family living in Saratoga County. Eligibility Criteria: Must meet income eligibility. Emergency Response System- CALL 518-884-4100 An emergency response system is an electronic device designed to assist clients to summon help in the event of an emergency. Eligibility determined by income. No cost if eligible.
Legal Services - CALL 518-884-4100 Legal Services (Wills, Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy) are available to Saratoga County Seniors age 60 and older through a contract with a private attorney. The attorney does NOT participate in litigation or attend court on behalf of clients. Appointments are required. SARATOGA COUNTY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS TO DELIVER MEALS TO HOMEBOUND SENIORS Immediate need for service to Ballston Spa, South Glens Falls, Wilton, Hadley, Schuylerville, Greenfield BALLSTON SPA, NY -- The Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors in the following areas: Ballston Spa, South Glens Falls, Wilton, Hadley, Schuylerville, and Greenfield. This important program helps many seniors, age 60 and older, remain independent in their homes by providing them with a nutritious ready-to-eat lunch each weekday. Meals are picked up at 11AM and delivered until 1PM. Volunteers’ schedules are flexible to meet their availability. To become a volunteer, individuals must submit paperwork, including references, to the Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services. Volunteers must have a valid driver license and their own vehicle. Training and orientation are provided to all volunteers.
