Day Town Court is open the first 3 Wednesdays of every month. Court proceedings begin at 5:00 PM and all defendants are requested to be in Court by 4:45 PM.
The first Wednesday of the month is DA night, the second Wednesday is for civil cases and the third Wednesday is for criminal arraignment.
The Court is staffed by one Judge, Kenneth "Ohi" Johnsen and one Court Clerk, Gary Wheeler.
Judge Johnsen has been the Town Justice for the Town of Day for over 15 years. As a Town Justice in Saratoga County, it is required that Town Justices do a minimum of 12 hours of judicial education each year. Judge Johnsen served from 2013-2016 at the Saratoga County Magistrates Association as Vice President, and served as New York State Magistrates Director from 2014-2017. He was elected as the 1st Vice President of the NYSMA at the 2021 annual conference in Niagara Falls, NY. On November 1st, 2022 at the annual NYSMA conference in Saratoga Springs, NY, Judge Johnsen was unanimously elected as the 2022/23 President Elect.
The New York Magistrates Association is a non-governmental, not for profit organization made up of the Town and Village Judges (both active and retired) across New York State. NYSMA is NOT a state agency. The mission statement of NYSMA is as follows: The New York State Magistrates Association exists to develop better methods and desirable improvements in the administration of the magistrates courts; to promote education and interchange of ideas and experiences of magistrates to that end; and to promote appropriate legislation for these purposes.
The Town of Day is pleased to announce that On October 3rd, 2023, Judge Johnsen has officially went from being "President Elect" of the New York State Magistrates Association to being "President" for a one year term. We are fortunate to have Ohi with his knowledge and expertise serve as our Town Judge for the Town of Day.
